Requirements to be an MPSC Assistant Professor in 2026

To be considered for these jobs, you must meet strict age and education requirements. For these jobs, MPSC follows the UGC’s standard rules.

Level of Education

A high level of academic skill is the most important requirement.

• Master’s Degree: You need to have a Master’s Degree from an Indian or accredited foreign university with at least 55% marks (or the same grade) in the subject you are interested in.
• NET/SLET/SET: You also need to have passed the National Eligibility Test (NET) given by UGC/CSIR or a similar test that is recognized, like SLET/SET.

Exemption from Ph.D.

You don’t have to take the NET/SLET/SET test if you have a Ph.D. degree that was awarded according to UGC rules from 2009 or 2016. But your Ph.D. must meet certain requirements:

Two research papers that came out of my Ph.D. work, one in a peer-reviewed journal.

Two papers were given at conferences and seminars.

Age Limit and Relaxations

As of January 19, 2026, the age requirements are set.

Age Requirement: 21 Years.

The oldest person can be 38 years old.

Relaxations:

To make sure that everyone can apply for these jobs, the upper age limit can be relaxed for certain groups:

• SC/ST: 5 years of extra time (up to 43 years).
• OBC: 3 years off (up to 41 years).
• People with Disabilities (PwD): 10 years of extra time.

If you are applying for unreserved vacancies, which means there are no posts set aside for your category, you cannot get an age relaxation.

Pay and Salary Scale for MPSC Recruitment 2026

One of the main reasons these jobs are so popular is that they offer financial stability.

Pay Band: ₹15,600–₹39,100 (before the change).

The Academic Grade Pay (AGP) is ₹6,000.

The notification talks about the pre-revised scale, which usually means Level 10 in the 7th Pay Commission matrix. This level has a starting basic pay of about ₹57,700 plus allowances, making it a good career choice for academics.

Selection Process: Hiring Based on Interviews

Unlike many other government tests that have a preliminary and main written test, the process for filling these positions is much simpler.

The commission will not give a written test; instead, they will choose candidates based on their academic scores. Instead, candidates will be chosen for the interview based on their Academic Score, which is based on UGC Regulations 2018 and the Manipur Government Order. Your graduation percentage, post-graduation grades, Ph.D., publications, and teaching experience all go into this score.

Personal Interview: The interview will be the only thing that decides who gets the job.
